The Strange Stigma of Wearing Rings

I don’t know why people are so afraid to buy a ring either for themselves or as a gift for someone. A ring is a ring is a ring. Yes… some rings, like an engagement ring, have a little more meaning, but in the end they are all just pieces of jewelry. If you like how they look on your hand or the hand of someone you know, why not buy it?
Some women have a hard time buying themselves a diamond ring because they feel like it is an admission of defeat. They had to buy one for themselves because nobody else would. Even if they are confident enough not to actually feel this, many others, when they see it, will be tactless enough to ask questions like “Why is that on the wrong finger?” and “When is the big day?”
Even a fancy ring…perhaps something sparkly and special…will draw looks of derision. Nobody looks twice if you have a nice pair of diamond earrings on, but a ring that is larger than a pea is immediately looked down upon, as if you are showing off by wearing it.

It comes down to this… if you are comfortable, go for it. If you tried to tailor your wardrobe to the neuroses of everyone you are going to run into during the course of the day, you’d never leave the house. Everyone has a hang up when it comes to something. You like rings? Wear them.
