Appreciate Some Loose Diamonds

Loose gemstones make me think of pirates. You know, Tim Curry as Long John Silver pirates. They come in chests, resting on piles of gold. However, for modern day adventurous investors, loose diamonds, and other gemstones, too, are a real option. No eye patch needed. But how do you find the right gemstones to buy? What are the most affordable and which appreciate the best?

Avoid faddish diamonds, first. There are certain “junk” diamond colors that come into fashion every now and again, as diamond sellers try to get rid of these large stocks of diamonds that no one wants. The cycle we're just getting out of is pink, while black diamonds are the new big thing. While these can make beautiful jewelry, the diamonds don't tend to appreciate. In fact, if you're aware of them at all, it is probably at the height of their popularity and therefore price.

Find gemstones that are affordable, but not top-notch. You want something that you'll be happy to have set for your own personal use, but you'll never notice the difference between the top two grades of clarity, for instance. You should also get your loose diamonds certified, or buy diamonds already certified. That promise comes with a premium to the price, which you can then reap.

Buying diamonds as in investment is a lot of work. If you find a reliable and professional jeweler, though, it can also be incredibly profitable and rewarding. Now go out and invest!

It’s a tricky time to be a financial adviser. True, there has never been anything that was a rock solid guarantee when it comes to predicting how an investment is going to perform. Even the simple act of opening a basic passport savings account at a local bank is only as good as the health of the bank. But today it seems even far more complicated. Depending on what kind of financial indicators you are watching, our economy is either the best it has been in five years or is still sloughing its way deeper into the muck. With such conflicting impressions, deciding where to invest your money is no easy task. That is why I have a suggestion that you might say is outside the box. I am talking, of course, about loose diamonds.

There is nothing that performs with such alarming consistency like precious metals and jewels. You probably have picked up some indication of that by seeing the proliferation of stores that offer to buy your used gold or seen the commercials for internet sites that promise the same thing. There is a reason that you don’t see many (if any) stores offering the same concept for loose diamonds. The reason for that is simple, though, once you think about it. If you were to have a look through your jewelry collection, there is going to be a lot of gold and silver, and certainly some diamonds most likely, but those diamonds are not going to be loose ones. Rather, they are going to already be set in something.

That is going to change in time, however, because there is a slowly but steadily growing presence of jewelers offering unset diamonds for sale. This trend did not come about as an investment concern, at least not in the way that we are talking about it now. It started off because of the growing number of people who were returning to the artisan trade of being fine craftsmen, expressing their artistic ability by working with precious metals and fine jewelry. And the jewelers realized that could actually obtain the materials separately, have the jewelry designed in house, and spend less money than buying mass produced pieces. The market for loose diamonds as an investment was mostly an afterthought, but the value of Loose Diamonds is always rising, and unlike other investments, like stocks, bonds, C.D.’s, etc., that only serve one purpose, the diamonds you buy can either strictly be an investment, or you can eventually use them to create your own design of dazzling jewelry.

Loose Diamonds: Creativity Is Yours

Anyone can walk into a jeweler and find a perfect ring, bracelet, necklace or other type of jewelry. One may find exactly what they are looking for and walk out completely content with the purchase. But for some people, the idea of purchasing a loose diamond or other stone holds a promise of creative possibility.

Become familiar with the four C’s when choosing your loose stone. The four C’s are cut, color, clarity and carat. Cut refers to the facets defining the depth of the diamond. A cut too deep or too shallow can impact the “brilliance” of the stone when seen in light. Color refers to the level of purity in a stone. The more colorless the stone, the more valuable it is. Clarity refers to the level of flaws in the stone and carat refers to the size.

One benefit of a loose diamond is that you can see the whole stone. The stone is not in a setting which may hide the bottom portion of the stone. This allows you to see the clarity easier, however it should be noted that in most instances, the color and clarity of a less valuable stone vs. a more valuable stone may not be detected by the naked eye. It takes a gemologist and a microscope to determine the difference.

Visit local jewelers to see stones up close and personal. Whether you purchase a loose stone from a local jeweler or online are up to you. Online retailers tend to have lower prices because of having to hold fewer inventories and dealing with more competition. But since a diamond can be one of the largest purchases you may make, it may give you comfort to hold a stone and really evaluate it in person to make sure it’s exactly what you want.

Consider your budget. Remember that this is just the stone and no matter what kind of setting you are going to put this in, be it a ring, necklace or earrings, there will be an expense involved in turning it into jewelry. Factor in the total amount you can afford to spend and work around that amount accordingly when finding your stone.

The possibilities are endless with Certified Loose Diamonds. You can create a jewel that is specific to you, allows your creativity to shine through and is uniquely yours.
